Updating time and date on FreeBSD and Linux with NTP

If your server is too far out of date the ntp daemon won’t automatically synchronize your date and time, so after you do a new install its usually a good idea to run the following command.  It will force a time update.  You could also add this to /etc/rc.local if you wanted to do it everytime your machine booted.

ntpdate -s time.nist.gov
